What Is Chiropractic?

Physical manipulation of the spine and skeleton has been in practice throughout the world for hundreds of years.  Hippocrates, often referred to as the "Father of Healing," described and outlined methods of treating illness this way.

It was not until 1895 that modern chiropractic utilized the precise spinal adjustment to reduce misalignments of the body.  This discovery was made by D.D.
Palmer a "healer" and scientist in Iowa.  Palmer's development of the method for the adjustment of specific vertebrae in a systematic fashion is what distinguishes scientific chiropractic from gross manipulations of earlier days.

Athletes And Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic Care is great for anyone involved in athletics, whether you are a professional or weekend warrior. By keeping your spine functioning as optimally as possible, you will play better, help prevent injuries, and help heal old injuries.

A research study conducted by Drs. Anthony Lauro and Brian Mouch, published in the journal of Chiropractic research and Clinical Investigation, 1991, indicated chiropractic care might improve athletic performance by as much as 16.7% over a two week period. The report also concluded that subluxation-free athletes react faster, coordinate better, execute fine movements with improved accuracy and precision, amounting to an overall better athlete.

“I would estimate that in excess of 90% of all world-class athletes use Chiropractic care to prevent injuries and to increase their performance potential.” Sean Atkings, Ph D Exercise Physiologist.

Tiger Woods Comments on Chiropractic “Being a chiropractic patient has really helped me immensely. Lifting weights and seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis has made me a better golfer. I've been going to Chiropractors for as long as I can remember. It's as important to my training as practicing my swing." - Tiger Woods - PGA Professional

Study Shows Chiropractic is Cost Effective in treating Lower Back Pain

A recent study finds that chiropractic and medical care have comparable costs for treating chronic low-back pain, with chiropractic care producing significantly better outcomes.

A group of chronic low-back patients who underwent chiropractic treatment showed higher pain relief and satisfaction with the care and lower disability scores than a group that underwent medical care, according to an October 2005 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT).

Although several cost-effectiveness studies outside the United States have favorably compared chiropractic to medical care, this new study is one of the first to compare low-back treatment costs and outcomes within the structure of the American health care system.
